For a great family dog there are few that excel him for worthiness, friendliness, loyalty and trust. As hunting dogs, they display all the abilities of the Setters and Retrievers, and at the same time being able to follow a sent as keenly as a Bloodhound. This is a hardy, well built dog with a wavy coat that is an attractive rich golden color, with the texture being dense and water resistance. It was originally bred to retrieve waterfowl. A truly superior hunting dog, the Golden Retriever has a highly developed scenting ability and great intelligence, which also makes him easy to train. It retrieves as natural as it breathes, and will leap eagerly into water to recover downed birds, or frisbees. They are happiest when fetching and carrying, and in a show of affection. will look for any opportunity to bring things to its master. The Golden Retriever is also an effective gun dog which can systematically track prey in the field. It's calm, gentle, and loyal nature makes the Golden Retriever an ideal family companion that also has "seemingly infinite patience" with children.
